Japan Issues First New Banknotes In 20 Years

The Bank of Japan has issued new banknotes for three major denominations for the first time in two decades. New designs have been introduced for the 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen and 1,000 yen notes.

They became legal tender on July 3. The new notes come with enhanced security features, notably the 3D holographic stripe that has been used for the images.

The size of the writing of the numerals has also been enlarged from the existing series of notes. The new 10,000 yen note bears an image of Shibusawa
